Scottish Premiership golf equipment have voted in favour of banning the usage of synthetic pitches within the top-flight.
The floor shall be phased out by 2026 after a vote on the proposal was handed by at the very least 9 of the 12 Premiership golf equipment.
Subsequent season’s prime flight shall be made up of Aberdeen, Celtic, Dundee, Dundee United, Hearts, Hibernian, Kilmarnock, Motherwell, Rangers, Ross County, St Johnstone and St Mirren.
Following Livingston’s relegation, Kilmarnock’s Rugby Park is the one synthetic pitch within the prime flight – though the membership are already planning on returning to grass in 2025.
Raith Rovers – who missed out on Premiership promotion after defeat to Ross County within the playoffs – even have a man-made pitch and described the proposal as ‘basically flawed’ alongside decrease league golf equipment Falkirk, Queen of the South and Hamilton Accies who’re the one different membership to have used the floor within the prime flight.
In an announcement, the SPFL stated: “The SPFL Board has granted a two-year interval to permit golf equipment with a man-made pitch to plan for the phasing out of synthetic pitches within the prime tier of Scottish soccer.
“This era of grace is consistent with suggestions of the SPFL Competitions Working Group, which represents member golf equipment throughout the SPFL.
“The SPFL Board recently approved plans for a Premiership-wide project to work with a leading pitch consultancy firm, which is regularly used by UEFA, to improve the standards of grass pitches in the cinch Premiership. The SPFL will be engaging with Premiership clubs on this project ahead of the new season.”
