Heavy Truck Gross sales Decreased 10% YoY in December

This graph reveals heavy truck gross sales since 1967 utilizing knowledge from the BEA. The dashed line is the December 2024 seasonally adjusted annual gross sales charge (SAAR) of 422 thousand.

Heavy truck gross sales actually collapsed throughout the nice recession, falling to a low of 180 thousand SAAR in Could 2009.  Then heavy truck gross sales elevated to a brand new document excessive of 570 thousand SAAR in April 2019.

Heavy truck gross sales declined sharply firstly of the pandemic, falling to a low of 288 thousand SAAR in Could 2020.  

Heavy truck gross sales have been at 422 thousand SAAR in December, down from 491 thousand in November, and down 9.5% from 466 thousand SAAR in December 2023.  

Often, heavy truck gross sales decline sharply previous to a recession.  This is only one month, and gross sales may be revised up.

Vehicle SalesThe second graph reveals mild car gross sales because the BEA began retaining knowledge in 1967.  

Car gross sales have been at 16.80 million SAAR in December, up from 16.65 million in November, and up 5.5% from 15.92 million in December 2023.
